Research: Wheat grass

Some of the earliest research done with wheat grass was conducted by the animal foods industry, in the search for a concentrated green food that would increase the vitamin content of their products. Many different grasses and plants were studied and the best results were achieved with wheat grass.

These researcher found that only a small amount of dehydrated wheat grass was needed (six to ten per cent), in addition to the regular feed, to achieve superior health and fertility. Milk production in cows increased, chickens laid more eggs and other animals produced larger litters of young ones that grew faster, stronger and healthier. Later, medical studies confirmed its health giving benefits for humans, as well.

From the human point of view, research suggests that eating dark green vegetables and foods high in beta carotene offers some protection from the development of lung cancer, with reduced risk of cancers of the ovary, cervix, stomach and colon. Some research has even indicated that the risk of cancer can be reduced by fifty per cent, by ensuring adequate amounts of green foods in the diet. Researchers have found that wheat grass contains natural antiseptics and antibiotics, that seem to stimulate healing by promoting cell regeneration evidence.

Studies done by Japanese scientists indicate that the enzymes in wheat grass can neutralise many environmental pollutants. The enzymes and amino acids found in wheat grass can also protect us from carcinogens, like no other food or medicine can, by fighting tumours and neutralizing toxins. The healing process begins as the therapeutic chlorophyll in the grass catalyses the elimination of the stored toxins. As these toxins are eliminated, the body is cleansed and brought back to its natural state of health.

Alternative health practitioners, doctors, organic enthusiasts, and natural food supporters have all pledged their support of wheat grass, which provides more aid to the human body then most other foods combined. In today’s world, where fast foods and sugars dominate our lives, perhaps it is time that a less recognized, healthier alternative becomes popular.
